Cetilar Racing at the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup GT in 2022

A new challenge for Cetilar Racing, the all-Italian team busy this year in the FIA World Endurance Championship and on the starting line in the last five editions of the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans.

2022 will in fact be marked by a unique stars-and-stripes challenge in the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup GT series. A challenge taken up by the Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 no.47, for which the support ofAF Corse  has been fully confirmed, with the same team who this year recorded a great success in LMGTE Am in the WEC consisting of Roberto LacorteGiorgio Sernagiotto and Antonio Fuoco, while Andrea Belicchi will continue to play a major coordination role on the track.

Four appointments are planned for the only “all-Italian” team in the category, the four great classic endurance races. Starting with the 24 Hours of Daytona at the end of January and preceded only one week before by the Roar Before the Rolex 24. For the Cetilar Racing team, this is the second consecutive participation in the race in Florida, after a very positive appearance in early 2021 with the Dallara LMP2, reaching sixth place in the class. The place was won after a very long stop in the pits caused by a problem with the gearbox during the ninth hour which denied Lacorte, Sernagiotto, Fuoco and Belicchi (the fourth man in the event) a probable victory, having led the race in the early stages.

With regard to Daytona, along with the three main Cetilar Racing drivers will be the new entry Alessio Rovera, the 26-year-old from Varese, this year’s world champion in the FIA WEC in the LMGTE Am class with another AF Corse Ferrari.
The calendar will continue with the 12 Hours of Sebring (again in Florida), during the weekend of 18/19 March. At the end of June, the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen, will be held in the state of New York. Last stop Road Atlanta (Georgia), in early October, for the Petit Le Mans.

The choice to take part in the four most important endurance races of the IMSA championship this year is the result of several factors, – Roberto Lacorte explained  – “ The first and main one being to desire to win a new championship. For Cetilar Racing, this is a stimulating, high-level challenge, rich in history, tradition and interest. The participation last January in the 24 Hours of Daytona with the LMP2 prototype was a great experience that ended rather bitterly. We promised that we would be back, and in doing so we decided to extend our presence also to the great classic races in the US calendar, and we can’t wait to put ourselves to the test in a highly competitive category like the GT. I should underline that ours is not a farewell to the FIA World Endurance Championship, only a goodbye. And last but not least, I would like to give a warm welcome to the young and highly talented driver, Alessio Rovera, who will join us in the race in Daytona.
