Cetilar® at the Italian Olympic Class Championship in Follonica

The Olympic classes, the crews of the federal teams, the young promises and old sea dogs: like every year, Olympic sailing awards its titles in a single event with hundreds of sailors taking part in the races. The event is called CICO, the acronym of Italian Olympic Class Championship, and this year it will be held in Follonica (Grosseto) from 16 to 20 September, brought forward one week to avoid overlapping with a European championship.

Cetilar® will also be present at the event, as partner and supplier to the Italian Sailing Federation, offering the participants its free massage service in the classic white and blue pagoda set up at many previous sports events, of course in full compliance with the health rules in force!

A service that will certainly be appreciated by the hundreds of sailors competing in the Italian Championships, with all the precautions and health safety protocols required to prevent infection, representing the first, great national event reserved for the ten Olympic classes (plus the two paralympic classes and the new Kiteboard and windsurf IQ Foil entries) since the end of the lockdown.

The event was officially presented yesterday in Follonica live on social media, in the presence of the Vice-Chairman of CONI Alessandra Sensini, who, from Grosseto, knows the area and its sea very well, and the FIV Chairman Francesco Ettorre.

At the CICO, organised by the Italian Naval League in Follonica, with the Follonica Nautical Club and the Scarlino Nautical Club, over 200 competitors are expected, including the whole national Italian sailing team, with the athletes preparing for the coming Tokyo Olympics, postponed to 2021. The event will see Italian and foreign teams racing, including World and European champions, with the exceptional presence of some medal winners from the Rio Games in 2016.

The CICO 2020 opening ceremony, with the traditional raising of the flag and in the presence of a small number of well-distanced athletes, is planned in Marina di Scarlino on Wednesday 16 September at 7.00 pm. The regattas will be held from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 starting from 12.00 noon. Five regattas fields have been planned, from Torremozza to Puntone di Scarlino:

  1. from North to South, the male and female 470 doubles and the single Finn;
  2. the Kite and windsurf;
  3. off the beach hosting the LNI HQ, the largest classes, men’s Laser Standard and women’s Laser Radial;
  4. further south, the men’s double acrobatic 49er and women’s 49er FX, and mixed foiling catamaran Nacra 17;
  5. finally, near the Puntone port, the two classes Parasailing 2.4 mR and Hansa 303.

The prize-giving ceremony is planned for Sunday 20.

The issue of health safety will be central to the event: FIV and the Organiser Clubs have adopted a series of measures complying with and strengthening the protocols for sports events, as well as the use of personal protective equipment and sanitisation.
